Lachy Whitford founded Roost Architecture with a desire to bring creative flair, practicality, lightheartedness, beauty, and joy to the spaces of people’s everyday life.

Architecture, for Lachy, is where art meets reality, where dreams meet possibility, and where people meld with their environment. It's a joyful celebration of life with all its quirks and of the places we live.

Lachy firmly believes that a job worth doing is worth doing well. He takes great pleasure in working closely with clients from the very outset, guiding their projects through to completion and celebrating alongside them inside the finished product.

A glimpse into Lachy's background reveals a lifelong involvement in hands-on creation. His academic journey took him through the University of Canberra, California Polytechnic State University, and the University of Newcastle, where he graduated with first-class honours and was awarded the Commissioner K G Hoffman Prize for Urban Design. He chose Newcastle for its vibrant studio culture and its commitment to architecture which is deeply rooted in its surroundings.

Lachy has over a decade of professional experience in renowned architectural practices including Daryl Jackson Alastair Swayn; and Peter Stutchbury Architecture, where Lachy served as Project Architect on notable projects such as the 'Lagoon House'.

In addition to his studio experience, Lachy has done his time on the tools, having spent multiple years on construction sites, working under experienced builders. This hands-on experience has proven critical to his understanding of the practical aspects of construction and project management.

Before transitioning to a career in architecture, Lachy worked as an outdoor education instructor for Outward Bound Australia. Living and working in remote locations, often in makeshift shelters, fostered a deep appreciation for the fundamental essence of shelter.
